The reception desk is the first surface a visitor sees. It has to look finished, take a computer and a bag drop, and still leave the person behind it room to work. This page is reception desks and counters only. Staff workstations, corner desks and sit-stand frames stay in their own ranges.

What to decide before you order

• Width — 1800mm is a common single-person counter. 2200–2400mm gives a second work zone or a waiting return. 3000mm is for a wider foyer or two staff.
• Left, right or straight — many counters are handed. Stand where the receptionist will sit and face the door. The return should sit on the side that does not block the walk-in.
• Transaction top — a raised front hides the keyboard and papers from the visitor. A flat top is simpler and cheaper if the room is small.
• Cable and CPU space — the desk still runs a PC, phone and often a printer. Check ports and cupboard space on the product page.
• Finish — match the waiting chairs and any existing Cubit or office range if the foyer sits next to the floor.

A reception desk is not a staff workstation. If someone needs a full-time desk in the back office, use office desks.

Pair the counter with reception chairs for the waiting side, not a task chair from the office floor unless that is what you want the foyer to look like.

Offices, clinics and small foyers

The same counters go into commercial offices, medical rooms, schools and small retail foyers. Measure the wall behind the desk and the path past it. A 3000mm unit in a narrow lobby forces people to squeeze past the corner.

What size reception desk do I need?

Measure the wall and the walkway. 1800mm suits one person. 2400mm is the usual step up. 3000mm needs a real foyer.

Do I need a left-hand or right-hand reception desk?

Only if the unit has a return. Face the entrance from the staff side. The return goes on the side that keeps the door clear.

Can I use an office desk at reception?

You can, but visitors see the cables and the working mess. A reception counter is built to face the room.

Do these desks come with chairs?

No. Waiting seats are on reception chairs. The staff seat is an office chair.
