What size desk fits a home office?

Measure the wall and leave room to pull a chair out.

• 1200mm — laptop or one screen in a bedroom or small study
• 1500mm — the usual home-office width: one monitor, a keyboard and some paper
• 1800mm — only if the room is a dedicated office and you run two screens. It will dominate a spare bedroom.

Depth of 700–800mm keeps the screen off your chest. If two walls meet in an unused corner, a 1500 x 1500 L-shape often gives more usable top than a longer straight desk. See corner desks for the full L-shape range.

Desk first, then the chair

A cheap chair under a good desk still wrecks a workday. Desks and chairs are quoted separately so you can match the seat to the top. See office chairs — look for a task chair that tucks under the desk and supports you at sitting height, including when you drop a sit-stand desk back down.

Fixed desk or sit-stand at home?

A fixed 1200 or 1500 is the straightforward buy if the room is tight and the budget is tight. Choose the Malmo, or another desk from electric standing desks, if you already know you want to change height during the day. A standing laptop trolley is for short sessions, not a full workstation.
